Marcos Alonso, the Barcelona defender, is said to be a potential transfer target for a Premier League club.
Alonso parted ways with Chelsea last summer to join Barcelona, where he quickly established himself as a key member of Xavi’s side.
The 32-year-old was not anticipated to become a regular at Barcelona, but he finished the season with 37 appearances in all competitions.
Alonso has also scored three goals but failed to contribute a single assist.
Despite being named to the 2022-23 squad, Alonso is yet to be registered for current season. It is because of Barcelona’s continuous financial problems.
It is likely that Alonso will be added to Barcelona’s La Liga roster in the future. However, the Catalan giants still have work to do.
In addition, a new signing Inigo Martinez is another player in the same scenario, and it is possible that the former Athletic Bilbao defender will be prioritized above Alonso.
Marcos Alonso have right to decide his ‘Career Path’
According to journalist Gerard Romero, an undisclosed Premier League club has expressed interest in providing Alonso with a new home if the situation is not resolved.
Although Alonso is thought to wish to stay in Barcelona, the Spain international is said to be ‘considering’ if he should seek a move abroad.
Alex Balde is currently Barcelona’s first-choice left-back, and the teenager is likely to start the bulk of games this season.
Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, and Eric Garcia are all ahead of Alonso in the pecking order, with Martinez still to be added.
Alonso’s contract expires in less than a year, although Barcelona may choose to keep him due to his supposed low earnings in relation to the rest of the squad.
After periods with Bolton Wanderers, Fiorentina, and Chelsea, Alonso returned to Spain’s top flight for the first time last season.
