Pierrie-Emerick Aubameyang joined Chelsea from Barcelona last summer.

Barcelona has made Chelsea’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang their top No. 9 target this summer, alongside Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino.

The LaLiga leaders want to re-sign Aubameyang. He made an indelible impression on the Barcelona dressing room during his time there last year, as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Manager Xavi is likely to see the Gabonese striker as a slightly different option to the Poland captain. But re-signing him from Chelsea will be difficult financially. Firmino will be a free agent when his Liverpool contract expires on July 1 and Barca wants him.

Aubameyang reportedly kept a model employee at Stamford Bridge despite being informed. He was not in Graham Potter’s plans and being excluded from their Champions League knockout stages.

After coming off the bench in matches against Tottenham and Wolves this season, his attitude is likely to have remained excellent. He has worked hard to keep his spot in the team.

Pierrie-Emerick Aubameyang move to Barcelona?

Pierrie-Emerick Aubameyang is still not in Chelsea’s long-term plans. The Blues are happy for him to depart this summer in what is the expectation as to be a significant player clear-out. It is due to the number of additions made in the previous two transfer windows,

Barcelona wanted to re-sign Aubameyang in January but were unable to commit the necessary funds.

The club is attempting to negotiate greater flexibility with LaLiga for next season. They hope will include the return of Lionel Messi. But they are currently at the limit of their financial fair play capacity.

Firmino’s status as a free agent, having announced earlier this year that he would be leaving Anfield, puts him in the mix as a serious option, along with another pending free agent, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram.

Vitor Roque, 18, of Athletico Paranaense, is also on Barcelona’s list.

Aubameyang, whose situation is also being under control by clubs in Italy and Germany, is likely to make his return to Barcelona with the intention of working towards this outcome in the coming weeks, despite the fact that his Chelsea contract is still valid for another year.

The former Arsenal forward has had a difficult return to London with Chelsea. He currently has record of scoring three goals in 20 appearances in all competitions, 10 of which were starts.

Aubameyang joined the Blues from Barcelona for £10.3 million last summer after a productive second half of the 2021/22 season at the Nou Camp, where he scored 13 goals in 24 games across all competitions.
