After placing fifth in the Premier League in goals scored previous season, the Blues have attempted to address their goal-scoring issues through the trade market.

They signed France international Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig and Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson from Senegal.

However, a pre-season injury to Nkunku has left them lacking in the final third, with Armando Broja still out and Romelu Lukaku expected to leave the club.

Jackson has been tasked with leading the line for Chelsea’s first two league games, including Sunday’s devastating 3-1 loss to West Ham United.

Pochettino wants more player at Chelsea

Pochettino revealed after the game that the squad expected to sign a forward. Also, they want to sign someone before the transfer window closed at the beginning of September.

“It’s a difficult situation because we had two strikers Nkunku and Broja, but both are injured,” Pochettino explained to talkSPORT.

“It is difficult to find the right profile at this time.” We are in the process of determining whether we can add some players in this area.

“However, it is a difficult task for the club.” They are certainly working hard to bring in some new talent. If that is not possible, we must wait until Nkunku and Broja are ready, with the assistance of Mason [Burstow].

“I don’t believe the issue is that we require another striker. We need to be more clinical with the opportunities we’ve generated. Strikers aren’t the only ones who need to be clinical in front of goal.”

Chelsea were connected with a transfer for French striker Elye Wahi, but he chose to stay in France and join Ligue 1 runners-up Lens.

The Blues are also thought to be interested in signing Folarin Balogun from Premier League rivals Arsenal.

According to a recent rumor, Chelsea have initiated “tentative” talks with the Gunners about a move for the 22-year-old.

Balogun, who Arsenal values at £50 million, had a successful loan spell with Reims last season, scoring 21 goals in 37 Ligue 1 games.
