Red Devils may fail to sign Benjamin Pavard

Manchester United are reportedly now unlikely to sign Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard this summer due to the recent developments surrounding Harry Maguire.

West Ham United made a £30 million bid for Maguire last week. The England international appears to be on his way out of Old Trafford.

However, it is understood that a prospective deal to West Ham has already fallen through, with the 30-year-old expected to remain in Manchester this summer despite extensive speculation about his future.

Maguire was stripped of the captain’s armband earlier this summer, and he is now only the club’s fourth-choice center-back behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof.

The move to ten Hag’s side as a potential replacement for the former Red Devils captain involves Pavard and Nice’s Todibo.

According to Sky Sports News, the recent developments surrounding Maguire make a deal for Pavard extremely unlikely.

Red Devils to hold on Pavard signing due to Maguire’s unpredictable condition

According to the source, the approach for the Bayern defender was made in response to the possibility of Maguire departing. There is now no room in the budget to bring in the France international.

Pavard’s contract at Allianz Arena expires in June of next year. He seems to depart Thomas Tuchel’s side before the end of the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old, who has made 163 appearances for Bayern since joining from Stuttgart in July 2019. Pavard is said to be worth around €40 million (£34.5 million) to the German champions.

In all competitions last season, Pavard played 43 times for Tuchel’s regular squad, contributing one assist and seven goals.

On Saturday, he also played 45 minutes in his team’s 3-0 loss to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup.

Man United are still working on a number of exits before the end of the summer transfer window. Manchester are still looking for a defensive midfielder.

Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina is thought to be their top target in that area of the field, with Fred already on his way to Fenerbahce and Donny van de Beek apparently poised to go.

On Monday night, Manchester United won 1-0 over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 2023-24 Premier League.
