Romeo Lavia Transfer News

Chelsea allegedly reached a £58 million agreement to sign Southampton midfielder Lavia, surpassing Premier League rivals Liverpool in the process.

The 19-year-old joined the Saints from Manchester City last summer and dazzled during his first taste of first-team action. However, he was unable to keep the South Coast club from relegation.

Lavia appeared in 29 league games for Southampton, 26 of which he started. He scored his first goal in professional football against Chelsea at St Mary’s in August 2022.

The former Belgium international is yet to appear for Russell Martin’s second-tier Saints this season. However, he was an unused replacement in the 2-1 win against Sheffield Wednesday on August 4.

Chelsea, Southampton, and writer David Ornstein apparently agreed to a £58 million transfer fee. As a result, Liverpool will not be able to sign Lavia this summer.

The Blues are anticipated to pay a £53 million upfront price for the Belgian’s services. Also, the deal includes with an extra $5 million in add-on payments possible if certain conditions are reached.

Personal details between Lavia and the West Londoners have still to be settled, according to the report, and the player’s move to Stamford Bridge is conditional on him passing a medical.

Earlier this month, there were rumors that Jurgen Klopp’s team had reached a £60 million deal with Southampton for the 19-year-old. But Liverpool are now getting ready to lose the battle for his services.

Romeo Lavia to travel to Chelsea from Southamption

Lavia seems that he chose Stamford Bridge over Anfield. It may be because he wants to collaborate with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in the Blues’ backroom staff.

The Ecuadorian international moved from Brighton & Hove Albion to Chelsea earlier this week, despite Liverpool sealing a £110 million deal for the 21-year-old.

Pep Guardiola’s Citizens will keep an eye on the midfielder’s potential move to West London, with Man City poised to receive 20% of Southampton’s total profit from the sale of Lavia.

Following the decisions of Caicedo and Lavia to join Chelsea, Liverpool are now shifting their attention to other transfer targets, with the Merseyside club reportedly interested in Fluminense’s Andre.

The 22-year-old earned his Brazil debut in a friendly against Senegal in June. He established himself as a crucial player for the Team of Warriors, starting 15 of their league matches this season.

Chelsea may be able to give both Caicedo and Lavia their debuts when Mauricio Pochettino’s side travels to West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
