Ronald Araujo has stated that he has no intention of leaving the club this summer.
Araujo is regarded as an important member of the Barcelona backline, having appeared in 31 competitive matches for Xavi’s team this season.
Despite being one of the first names on the team sheet, Araujo’s future at Barcelona has sparked widespread skepticism.
The club’s well-documented financial woes have sparked speculation that one or two starters would have to be offloaded this summer.
A recent report claimed Barcelona were willing to entertain offers for Araujo amid interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
Bayern reportedly attempted to sign Araujo in January, and Manchester United inquired during the winter transfer window.
The Red Devils plan to look for a new center-back before the season concludes. Raphael Varane’s and Jonny Evans’ contracts are going to expire at the end of the season.
Araujo dismissed speculation on his future, so it doesn’t appear that he is considering a transfer to Old Trafford.
“There’s been a lot of talk about this issue, but I’m happy in Barcelona,” Araujo told Uraguayan outlet La Quinta Tribuna.
“In addition, we have to finish the season well because there are still challenges, also with Uruguay with the Copa America.”
Ronald Araujo gives Barcelona future update
The 25-year-old’s current deal expires in more than two years, but Barcelona is eager to begin negotiations about an extension.
Araujo appears on focusing on the balance of the 2023-24 season for Barcelona. Barcelona prepares to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarterfinals next month.
They will also be hesitant to give up their La Liga crown without a fight, despite being eight points behind leaders Real Madrid with nine games remaining.
Before returning to his club, Araujo could play a role in Uruguay’s friendly against Ivory Coast on Tuesday in Lens.
