Trent Alexander-Arnold | Real Madrid is apparently keeping a close eye on the contract situation of Liverpool right-back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 'major target of Los Blancos this summer'

The England international has now reached the final 18 months of his current contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side, which is widely anticipated to begin discussions on a new term in the near future.

Alexander-Arnold was appointed to vice-captain behind Virgil van Dijk last summer, following the departures of Jordan Henderson and James Milner, and he has already tallied double-digit assists in the 2023-24 season.

Along with assisting 10 goals in 29 games for Liverpool this season, Alexander-Arnold has scored twice himself, however he is presently sidelined with his second knee injury of the year and has not played since February 10

The 25-year-old was therefore ruled out of England’s upcoming friendlies with Brazil and Belgium, as well as the EFL Cup final victory over Chelsea, but there is hope that he will return to action in early April.

Last month, reports surfaced that Liverpool had scheduled a round of contract talks with the right-back, and the club is hopeful of striking an agreement with his camp despite Klopp’s impending departure.

However, the Reds are still risking the risk of losing their academy star for nothing in 2025 as things stand, and should discussions with his representatives fall down, the management may be obliged to explore a sale this summer.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid has been notified to Alexander-Arnold’s uncertain contract position and is presently monitoring developments, while Liverpool has yet to begin talks about extending his contract.

The Merseyside giants are reportedly not considering a sale at this time, although it is unknown whether Alexander-Arnold wants to continue at Anfield or seek a new challenge at this stage of his career.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: Career and Stats

The 25-year-old has worn Liverpool colors since 2004, making 302 appearances for the club since graduating from their youth, scoring 18 goals and assisting 82 times while winning seven major trophies.

Alexander-Arnold has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Community Shield, and he could add a Europa League title by the end of the season.

The right-back has fifty-eight Premier League assists, which is the joint-highest total for a defender in the competition’s history with colleague Andy Robertson, whose future has also been put into question.

The Scotsman has just over two years left on his contract, but he is reportedly being pursued by Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, who are failing to reach an agreement with Alphonso Davies.

Alexander Arnold’s admirers Real Madrid are thought to be leading the fight to sign Davies from Bayern, who have refused to meet the Canadian’s pay demands, although Liverpool seem unconcerned about Robertson’s predicament despite interest from Thomas Tuchel’s team.

However, a number of Reds defenders, including Rhys Williams, Nat Phillips, and Joel Matip, who is out of contract in June and may have already played his final game for the club due to an ACL injury, might leave this summer.
