Ruben Amorim : Liverpool and sporting manager have agreed to a verbal agreement in principle.
The 39-year-old is alleged to have discussed a three-year contract as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.
According to Sky Germany, the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement.
According to sources on Merseyside, the accusations are “wholly inaccurate” and that the club is doing a comprehensive process with a number of contenders. They emphasize that a favored candidate has not been identified.
Amorim, who was also on Bayern Munich’s management shortlist prior to Thomas Tuchel’s departure this summer, has an escape clause in his contract with Sporting.
Ruben Amorim: Liverpool ‘agree three-year deal’ with new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp
According to Sky Sports News, Amorim was a major candidate for Liverpool’s next head coach.
Klopp revealed earlier this year that he will step down in the summer after nearly nine years at Liverpool, where he has won the Champions League, Club World Cup, Premier League, Super Cup, FA Cup, and two League Cups.
The 56-year-old could yet add to his title haul, with Liverpool second in the Premier League on goal difference with seven games remaining, and they face Atalanta in the Europa League quarterfinals.
Liverpool’s personnel have changed significantly since Klopp’s declaration, with former sporting director Michael Edwards returning as chief executive of football.
As sporting director, Richard Hughes will join from Bournemouth. On the other side, Pedro Marques of Benfica appears to have a big backroom position at Anfield.
Former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso is reportedly rumored to return as Klopp’s replacement following his outstanding performance at Bayer Leverkusen.
The former Spain international is on the verge of leading the German team to their first Bundesliga victory, but he declared last month that he will remain in his position next season.
Amorim currently appears to be the front-runner following four successful years in command of Sporting.
After brief stints in management of Casa Pia and Braga, the former Portugal international joined Sporting and led them to their first league title in 19 years in his first full season in charge.
Amorim has also won two League Cups with Sporting and is on track to win his second league title this season, as his team leads Benfica by four points with a game in hand.
