In Group E 2nd matchup, Spain kicked up their World Cup campaign with a 7-0 thrashing of Costa Rica, making an early statement about their tournament credentials.

Spain made an incredible World Cup start

The one-time World Cup winner Spain, beat Costa Rica by 7-0 on Wednesday. This is the largest ever World Cup winning margin of the Spanish team. Ferran Torres scored twice and five other players scored to send a strong message to the remaining nations in Qatar.


Spain have Argentina and Germany alongside in the Group E as their competitors. The Spanish side beat Costa Rica since the start, leading 3-0 after just over 30 minutes.

In the 11th minute, Dani Olmo swapped passes with Gavi before chipping Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas. Marco Asensio expertly timing a move into the box to connect powerfully with a Jordi Alba cross ten minutes later.

Torres scored his penalty in the 31st minute. He after added his second in the 54th after taking advantage of weak defending. Gavi is the youngest player to represent Spain in a World Cup, and he made a score in the 74th minute with a brilliantl volley. He made the score before the replacements of Carlos Soler and Alvaro Morata completed up a completely one-sided match.
