The former Manchester United and England player has discussed competing in one of their upcoming events. The series is promoted by Kalle Sauerland and features YouTube stars such as KSI and Logan Paul competing for large sums of money.

Rooney, 38, was fired as Birmingham City manager last month following only 15 games in charge of an unsuccessful spell at St Andrews. Now, one of the country’s greatest ever goal scorers is considering swapping football boots for gloves.

Wayne Rooney to leave Soccer and Join Boxing Career?

Rooney is contemplating his choices while waiting to see if another managing opportunity arises following his experiences with Birmingham, DC United, and Derby County. The former United and Everton striker has always been a big lover of boxing and was even a member of an amateur club as a kid in his homeland of Liverpool.

Rooney once walked out with Ricky Hatton for the Manchester fighter’s fight against Jose Luis Castillo in Las Vegas in 2007, and he has also been ringside for other significant fights. He previously messaged Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, playfully asking him to arrange a fight.

He has also already spoken with KSI about facing him, as disclosed by the YouTube personality in December 2022. However, going to Misfits for a battle is now regarded as a viable option for the retired footballer, with negotiations taking place in recent weeks.

Misfits does not follow the guidelines of the British Boxing Board of Control, hence Rooney will not be participating in professional boxing. The tournaments, which are televised on the pay-per-view streaming service DAZN, include a mix of social media superstars of varying popularity and infamy participating.

They have sparked controversy following some unpleasant situations at press conferences and weigh-ins in the overhyped promotions, with boxing experts calling for the events to be separated from the real sport.

Rooney has yet to commit to any conditions, and conversations are still in the early stages. Given his continued earning potential in football, a considerable sum would be required to entice Rooney to sign.
