Darwin Nunez of Liverpool has withdrawn out of Uruguay’s team for two international friendlies later this month owing to ‘physical concerns’.

Darwin Nunez has pulled out of the Uruguay squad due to an injury

Darwin Nunez is thought to have suffered a hamstring injury during Liverpool’s 4-3 FA Cup quarterfinal defeat to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The striker, who was chastised for his poor defending prior to United’s fourth and final goal, played the entire 120 minutes and looked to walk off the ground without incident.

However, the 24-year-old has been pulled from Uruguay’s team, reportedly as a precautionary measure rather than a major injury.

Nunez is not the only player who has been withdrawn from international duty as a precaution. Gabriel Magalhaes has withdrawn from Brazil’s roster for upcoming friendlies against England and Spain.

The Brazilian FA confirmed his departure from the squad on Monday, and Juventus centre-back Bremer was brought in to replace him.

‘I had previously mentioned that we would work with a slightly more wide list,’ Brazil manager Dorival Junior explained.

‘We can call it a pre-call, and another casualty occurred today. Unfortunately, Gabriel Magalhaes is uncalled. In his place, we’re calling Bremer from Juventus.

Darwin Nunez will not play for Marcelo Bielsa’s team in the next friendly

Nunez should be fit for Liverpool’s Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield on March 31.

Liverpool is presently second in the rankings, level on points with leaders Arsenal, while third-place Manchester City is only one point behind.

Each team has 10 matchups remaining and will be trying to field their strongest XI as they compete for the trophy.

Nunez will be extensively involved for the remainder of the season, followed by a busy summer with Uruguay competing in the Copa America.

Marco Bielsa’s team will begin their competition against Panama on June 24, with Bolivia and the United States both drawn into the same group.

Uruguay last won the Copa America in 2011, and they haven’t advanced past the quarterfinals since.
