Feyenoord defeated Ajax in De Klassiker on  Sunday

After failing to score in the first half hour, Feyenoord took the lead in the 34th minute through Brazilian forward Igor Paixao.

Yankuba Minteh and David Hancko quickly scored, giving the hosts a comfortable half-time lead.

Feyenoord, not happy with their three-goal lead, continued to drive forward, with Minteh scoring his second before Quinten Timber joined in.

There was still plenty of time for Paixao to score a brace and cap off a spectacular day for Arne Slot’s team.

The result brings Feyenoord back within nine points of leaders PSV Eindhoven, while Ajax remains in sixth place.

Feyenoord had a chance to break the deadlock in the first two minutes, but Santiago Gimenez’s drive was saved by Geronimo Rulli at the near post.

Rulli made another save in the 32nd minute, sprinting out of his goal to deny Gimenez after giving possession away with a sloppy goal kick.

Just seconds later, the Ajax goalie was unable to stop Paixao from making the crucial breakthrough.

The 23-year old receiver Minteh’s wonderful through pass and lifted the ball over the onrushing Rulli, elictiing wild celebrations in Rotterdam.

Minteh immediately increased Feyenoord’s lead, sliding the ball home from Bart Nieuwkoop’s cut-back for two goals in as many minutes.

Things got worse for John van ‘t Schip’s team when Hancko headed the ball home at the near post after latching onto Gimenez’s acrobatic attempt.

Van’t Schip then made two substitutions at halftime, but Minteh’s 56th-minute goal ended any prospects of an unexpected comeback.

The Newcastle United loanee created just enough room to direct a beautiful left-footed strike past a hapless Rulli.

Timber regained possession before smashing a low shot into the bottom corner from the outside of the box, eliciting a loud celebration from the noisy home crowd.

Paixao then scored his second goal and Feyenoord’s sixth after Ajax failed to clear their lines, giving him the opportunity to knock the ball in off the underside of the crossbar.

Feyenoord were denied a seventh goal when Alireza Jahanbakhsh’s effort was ruled offside, but it didn’t dampen the mood as the hosts celebrated an incredible victory.

Slot’s side is now unbeaten in 15 Eredivisie games, while Ajax is left to contemplate on their first-ever competitive loss by six goals.
