Man United have identified Benfica teenager Neves as a potential replacement for the Brazil international, according to El Nacional.
According to the source, the Red Devils are willing to fulfill Benfica’s €70 million (£61 million) asking price for the 19-year-old midfielder.
After progressing through the youth ranks at the Portuguese club, Neves made his senior debut against Braga in January.
Since making his Benfica debut, the teenager has appeared in 32 competitive games, scoring once and assisting twice.
Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez recognized the youngster’s performances, giving Neves his international debut in the recent 5-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Euro 2024 qualifying.
Joao Neves, who has started every game for Benfica this season, is scheduled to start Tuesday’s Champions League match against Real Sociedad.
