Kobbie Mainoo has won the Premier League’s Goal of the Month title for February, due to an ice-cold classic against Wolves.

On 1 February, United were on the approach of a humiliating defeat at Molineux, with late goals from Max Kilman and Pedro Neto eroding our 3-1 lead.

With 96 minutes gone, it appeared like the Reds would have to settle for one point rather than three, until Omari Forson threw the ball to Mainoo approximately 25 yards from goal.

Taking hold of the ball in the inside-left channel, the teenager, who was just making his ninth appearance in the English top division, appeared to have little going for him.

What happened next has already entered United folklore: Mainoo moved past one defender, nutmegged another, took advantage of Forson’s run to open up a shooting angle, and then curled the ball home with languid grace using one final Wolves player as a guide.

After scoring his first Premier League goal, Maino lost control, slapping Scott McTominay’s back and sprinting to the far end.

The match ended seconds later, with United winning 4-3 and Mainoo hailed as a hero.

Kobbie’s masterpiece was nominated for Premier League Goal of the Month along with Declan Rice (Arsenal), Richarlison (Tottenham Hotspur), Joao Pedro (Brighton & Hove Albion), Darwin Nunez (Liverpool), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), and Emerson Palmieri (West Ham).

However, the public have spoken and elected Mainoo as the winner, giving United their third success of the season in this area, following honors for Bruno Fernandes’ powerful volley against Burnley (September) and Alejandro Garnacho’s incredible overhead against Everton (November).

There’s more reason to celebrate: the league revealed earlier today that Rasmus Hojlund had been crowned Player of the Month after scoring five goals in four games.
