Mbappe transfer news; According to reports, Paris Saint-Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe has finally agreed to join Real Madrid this summer.

Mbappe 'agreed' to join Real Madrid?

For the past few years, not a single transfer window has passed without the 25-year-old being strongly linked with a move to the Spanish capital, only for Real to be repeatedly frustrated in their efforts.

Los Blancos failed with a €200 million (£172.1 million) bid in the summer of 2021 and appeared to be on track to sign Mbappe on a free transfer in 2022, only for the Frenchman to sign an unexpected contract extension that year.

However, there was another new twist in the Mbappe saga in 2023, when the ex-Monaco man informed PSG that he would not exercise his contract’s 12-month extension option, which was set to expire this summer.

Mbappe’s decision prompted PSG to go all-out to sell the forward in the most recent summer window, accepting a world-record €300 million (£258.1 million) bid from Al-Hilal and briefly removing the 25-year-old from the first-team group.

Mbappe, however, expressed no desire to move to Saudi Arabia, and even with Karim Benzema leaving Real Madrid for Al-Ittihad, Los Blancos’ acquisition of Jude Bellingham meant that they could not bring the PSG player to the club within the Financial Fair Play parameters.

Mbappe’s prolific ways have continued since the latest saga, but there have been rumors that Real Madrid may drop their interest in 2024, owing to the striker’s age and previous failures leaving a bitter taste in the mouth.

Mbappe transfer saga continues

According to reports, Liverpool is a strong contender to sign this year’s French World Cup winner. However, according to Foot Mercato, Real Madrid and Mbappe have reached an agreement.

Mbappe, who entered the final six months of his contract in January, has been free to speak with foreign teams, and the two parties are said to have reached an agreement in the last few days.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, on the other hand, has insisted that Mbappe will not leave the club on a free transfer under any circumstances, and the striker is said to be keen to avoid such a scenario out of respect for the French champions.

As a result, it remains to be seen how Real Madrid will structure a potential transfer with PSG, who would be powerless to keep Mbappe unless he agreed to a contract extension.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side reportedly gave Mbappe until mid-January to make a final decision on his long-term future, failing which they would move on to other attacking targets, but the Frenchman is now one step closer to his expected Bernabeu transfer.

Mbappe has a club-record 234 goals in 283 games for PSG over the last six and a half years, along with 100 assists, and he has 25 goals in just 24 matches this season.

The 25-year-old scored a hat-trick in PSG’s 9-0 Coupe de France victory over Revel on Sunday, becoming PSG’s all-time leading scorer in the French Cup with 30 goals.

Only Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane has scored 25 goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season, while Real Madrid’s top scorer Bellingham has 17 in all competitions.
