Sandeep Lamichhane withdraws his name from upcoming series

Sandeep Lamichhane, the star spinner for Nepal’s national cricket team, has decided to withdraw his name from the squad’s next series. From October 18 to 27, Team Nepal will host a tri-series against the UAE and Hong Kong in preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup Asian Region Qualifier.

Lamichhane has made a public declaration regarding his decision via his own social media outlet. “With a heavy heart, I have decided to withdraw my name from the upcoming tournament,” he said in his statement. I’ve been going through some terrible and challenging moments in my life, and I’ve realized that I need to rejuvenate myself and spend more time with my family. I’d like to convey my thankfulness for all of the blessings and wishes that have come my way thus far. Thank you very much. Until our paths cross again.”

Sandeep Lamichhane pulls out his name from upcoming Trilateral T20 Series

Sandeep Lamichhane had planned to withdraw from the Asian Games, but in a last-minute decision, he decided to fly to China.

According to a police report, Lamichhane was charged on September 6, 2022, with raping a 17-year-old minor. After arriving in Nepal on October 6, Lamichhane got away.

On Thursday, January 12, he was released on an NRs. 20 lakhs (Rs. 2 million/USD 15,300) bail by the Patan High Court. Following his release, his suspension was removed, and he re-joined the squad.

The final decision in the aforementioned case is still pending. Sandeep’s case is still pending in Kathmandu’s District Court. By repeatedly postponing the hearing, he has been able to continue representing the Nepali team.

This casts doubt on his participation in the upcoming vital series. From October 30 to November 6, Nepal will host a critical T20 World Cup Asian Region Qualifier. Nepal will compete on its home ground against seven other Asian nations. The stakes are high in this tournament, as the top two teams will earn a ticket in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
