Victor Osimhen of Napoli has stated that he will ‘definitely play in the Premier League one day.’

The 25-year-old began his professional career with German club Wolfsburg and briefly loaned out to Belgian side Charleroi before moving to France to join Lille in 2019.

A year later, Osimhen became the most expensive African footballer of all time when he signed for Italian club Napoli for €80 million, and he has since established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.

Osimhen has 67 goals in 119 appearances for Napoli, including 26 in 32 Serie A games last season, which helped the Partenopei win their first Scudetto in 33 years.

Last month, the Nigeria international committed his future to Napoli by signing a contract extension until June 2026, but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from linking him with a lucrative move elsewhere.

According to a recent report, Real Madrid is interested in signing Osimhen, but the striker has primarily been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea and Arsenal believed to be at the top of the list.

Victor Osimhen “One Day I will play in the Premier League”

Osimhen appeared to hint at a future move to Chelsea when he responded to a fan’s social media post of his younger self wearing a Chelsea shirt.

The striker, who is currently away with Nigeria for the Africa Cup of Nations, has since provided an update on his future, stating that he is still happy at Napoli but hopes to play in the English Premier League at some point in his career.

“I’m happy with the president (Aurelio De Laurentiis), I have a good relationship with him, I cannot lie.”
“I have a seriously good relationship with him,” Osimhen told Sky Sports News after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea.

“He has been with me since I signed with the club in 2020, and I have a good relationship with his family as well, which is always important to me to ensure that there is nothing wrong with the type of relationship I have with him and his family.

Thus, in my opinion, [De Laurentiis] has been the kind of president who has encouraged me off the field, and I have obviously made every effort to win the Scudetto for them. Therefore, having this kind of relationship and being content with both the person and the club owner is always important to me.

“Of course, one day definitely [will play in the Premier League], but now I have other plans in my career I’m looking forward to, but when the time comes, everyone will know.”

Napoli, who are currently eighth in Serie A and 20 points behind leaders Inter Milan, are under no pressure to sell their star striker, who is valued at more than £100 million.

Osimhen is unlikely to leave Napoli in January, but speculation about his future will likely resurface during the summer transfer window.
