Lucas Bergvall | Tottenham has signed young Swedish phenom midfielder ahead of Barcelona.
The 17-year-old was ready to join Barcelona, but Spurs persuaded Bergvall to transfer to north London after reaching an agreement with his club, Djurgardens, in a deal worth roughly €10 million ($10.9 million) plus add-ons.
Lucas Bergvall turns 18 on Friday and is likely to go to London within the next 24 hours to have a physical before signing a five-year contract that will start in the summer.
The midfielder had recently met with senior officials at Barcelona and Tottenham as the two clubs competed for his signature, and Spurs will consider his signing as a big coup.
Bergvall will spend the remainder of the season with Djurgardens before joining Tottenham’s first squad at the end of the season.
Tottenham also confirmed on Thursday that Argentine attacker Alejo Veliz has joined LaLiga side Sevilla on loan for the remainder of the season.
