Brentford FC signed Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur

Brentford have signed Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon on loan for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

After his previous loan stint with Manchester United ended, the Spain international joins Thomas Frank’s team. It doesn’t seem that his contract has a make permanent option or obligation.

The Bees are believed to have expressed an interest in signing Reguilon in November, and after a lengthy process, they were eventually successful in bringing him to the Gtech Community Stadium.

Reguilon is believed to have completed his medical with Brentford on Wednesday and will replace the injured Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey, the former of whom is expected to miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury.

“This is an excellent signing for us. We had been discussing the need for a good left-back for some time, and we were able to find one. “I’m very pleased with what Phil Giles and Lee Dykes have done,” Frank told the official Brentford website.

“Sergio is a Premier League player who is in every aspect a perfect fit for us. He is exactly what we are looking for. He’s a very offensive player with a great cross and left foot.

“He has the experience we need to supplement the rest of the squad, and he’s a good person. We need him, but I believe he needs us to demonstrate how good a footballer he is. I’m confident that this will be a fruitful partnership.”

Reguilon praised Frank’s influence in his mid-season move to the Gtech Community Stadium, saying, “I’m very happy; I believe this is what I need right now in my career.

“I want to meet my teammates and play with them, but for now, I’m just going to enjoy my football on the pitch. Thomas was instrumental in this transition for me. I’m in a situation where I need to play consistently, and I believe this club can provide that. I will give my all for the team over the next six months, but it is also important for my future.

“I’m pleased with my conversation with Thomas; he knows me very well. We had numerous conversations about everything. I remember the first time we talked for more than 40 minutes about football and everything.
