At the end of the current season, Napoli will have the option of buying Traore for €25 million (£21.4 million).

If they decide not to sign the Ivorian on a permanent basis, the Italian club will have to pay Bournemouth a loan fee.

The 23-year-old spent time in hospital after contracting malaria while on international duty with the Ivory Coast in November.

This season, the attacking midfielder has appeared in only six competitive games, with all three coming off the bench in the Premier League.

Good luck to midfielder Hamed Traorè, who has joined Serie A club Napoli on loan for the rest of the season.

Although he has been on the fringes of the squad since Andoni Iraola’s appointment in the summer, Traore has been battling illness in recent months.

Traore was forced to miss the Africa Cup of Nations, which is currently being held in his home country.

The 23-year-old is Napoli’s second signing of the January window, after acquiring defender Pasquale Mazzochi from Salernitana earlier this month.

Traore is unlikely to compete in the upcoming Italian Super Cup. Therefore, he hopes to play in Napoli’s next league game against Lazio on January 28.

Napoli, who ended their 33-year wait for the Serie A title last season, are currently facing a difficult campaign.

They were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Frosinone in December. The Blues are now eighth in Serie A, 20 points behind leaders Inter Milan.

Walter Mazzarri’s side can at least look forward to a Champions League last-16 tie against Barcelona, with the first leg scheduled for February 21.

Traore is Bournemouth’s second loanee to leave in as many days, following Joe Rothwell’s temporary move to Championship side Southampton.
