Ian Maatsen: Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement on a loan deal for the defender.
The terms of Maatsen’s contract are still being worked out. However, it seems that Dortmund will cover the 21-year-old’s salary during his loan spell in Germany.
To accommodate Maatsen’s move to the Bundesliga giants, Chelsea will have to cancel at least one other loan deal, but they are willing to do so.
Chelsea has already reached the limit for the number of players they can loan out to foreign clubs (seven).
Maatsen’s medical examination anticipates to start on Tuesday morning. Within the next 48 hours, the test should be done.
Maatsen turned down a permanent move to Burnley after helping the Clarets win promotion to the Premier League on loan last season.
The Dutchman appeared in 39 Championship games for Burnley, scoring four goals and setting up six more.
Before returning to the Premier League giants, Ian Maatsen had loan spells at Charlton and Coventry.
Despite only starting once in the Premier League, Ian Maatsen has made 15 appearances for Chelsea this season across all competitions.
Following stints in Feyenoord and Sparta Rotterdam’s youth programs, the prospect joined Chelsea from PSV’s academy in 2018.
He’ll be looking to get more first-team minutes in Germany and help Dortmund. Borussia Dortmund currently fifth in the table, finish the season on a high note.
